Though the war has not yet started, there are alread war parties searching through and ravaging enemy ares of Kial. Caroline and Tivoli, the only people left in a now-abandoned desert town, leave to to find a safer place. Making their way across the desert, they are found and offered a job- to act as guardian guides and lead a group of people from a desert fort to a city location.
The job seems normal at first, but Tivoli and Caroline don't realize just who they're moving . . .
